DGP visits North Kashmir, interacts with civil society members

Baramulla/March, 20: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr S P Vaid has said continuous initiatives are taken to bring all round improvement in the functioning of State Police to serve the people better. He has sought people’s cooperation in the fight against drug abuse in order to save our future generation.
Vaid said this while addressing civil society members and senior citizens at Baramulla and Kupwara during his day long visit to North Kashmir districts Monday. He said people’s cooperation is imperative for successful policing and the cops also have to address the concerns of the public to change their perception for the force. Various initiatives have been taken to strengthen police-public bonds and contribute together in reforming the society which is need of the hour, said Dr. Vaid.
DGP said Jammu and Kashmir Police has been bringing tremendous changes in its functioning making it a leading pro-people civil force. JKP has been strengthening its functioning in order to provide better police services to the people of the State. Community policing and fight against drug menace have proved helpful in strengthening our relations with the public as the initiatives are the humane face of men in khaki which have been appreciated by the civil society at all levels.
Dr. Vaid said more improvements in our work culture at grass route level are underway and personnel, highly aquatinted with importance of police-public relations, are deployed at these positions to cement further relations. He sought active support from the civil society to make the efforts fruitful in eradicating drug abuse, which is posing a great threat to the lives and energies of our youth, added Dr. Vaid.
Members of civil society and senior citizens appreciated the initiatives of JKP in eradicating the drug menace from the society and assured that the people would provide every support to the force in making the society crime free. People from Kupwara requested the DGP for establishing police public school to boost the education standards and cater the needs of meritorious students of remote district.
Dr. Vaid assured the people that their genuine demand would be conceded on priority and the department would use its available sources to establish a school in the district. He said JKP is doing its social responsibility in promoting quality education in the State, besides sports and cultural values among the youth.
During his visit Dr. Vaid declared open 11th North Kashmir Sports Festival at an enthusiastic and impressive function at Baramulla. Addressing the function DGP said JKP organises sports activities in different districts of the State, in order to inculcate sports spirit among the youth and also provide them a platform to excel. He said the youth of the State are showing keen interest in such activities and exhibit their talent in different categories. He advised the youth to get involved in such activities and channelize their energies. At the function sports persons, who brought laurels for national and international levels, were also honoured.
DGP also addressed police durbars and asked the cops to brace up for public service. He said our motto is to provide better services to the public which could determine our relations and help in maintaining rule of law in the State. He heard the grievances put forth by the cops and assured that their genuine grievances would be addressed at proper levels. He said PHQ has initiated various steps for the welfare of jawans and officers.
