Jakarta:Five people died during flooding in Padang Sidempuan, Indonesia, on Sunday, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported.
The flooding, which affected six sub-districts and forced more than 400 residents to leave their homes, occurred after the Batang Ayumi River burst its banks, BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Monday.

"Four people [died] in Padang Sidempuan's Hutaimbaru subdistrict and one in North Padang Sidempuan," Sutopo said. He added that at least 17 homes were damaged and another 17 destroyed in the flooding. At least seven vehicles were also badly damaged.
The agency has set up a kitchen in Sitamian and another in South Padang Sidempuan to feed residents who were forced to evacuate their homes.
